AP set to re-vote awards given to Texans LB Cushing

Houston, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Associated Press has announced it
intends to conduct a re-vote for two awards given to Texans linebacker Brian
Cushing at the conclusion of last season.
The decision comes in the wake of Cushing's four-game suspension handed down
last week for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing
substances.
Cushing was named the AP's Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as a second-
team All-Pro. He received 39 votes for the rookie honor compared with six for
Buffalo safety Jarius Byrd, whom it stands to reason could be the new winner.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the deadline to cast new ballots for both
awards is 12 p.m. (et) on Wednesday.
Cushing, 23, started all 16 games for the Texans last season and led the team
with 134 tackles. He also totaled five sacks, four interceptions, one safety
and two forced fumbles in helping the Texans record their first-ever winning
season at 9-7.
Houston chose the Park Ridge, New Jersey native with the 15th overall
selection in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Southern California.
