(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The streaking Portland Trail Blazers hope to finish a four-
game homestand in perfect fashion Friday by continuing their recent dominance
over the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Blazers, who have won eight straight games over Memphis, improved to 3-0
on their residency Wednesday when Greg Oden scored 18 points and Portland
moved the New Jersey Nets closer to an NBA record for futility to start a
season in a 93-83 victory at the Rose Garden.
The Nets are 0-15 and with two more losses can tie the league mark for the
worst start to a season, held by the 1988-89 expansion Miami Heat and tied by
the LA Clippers in the lockout-shortened 1999 season.
Brandon Roy added 13 points for Portland, which never trailed in the game, but
was tied with the Nets at one juncture in the third quarter. Rudy Fernandez
and LaMarcus Aldridge each scored 12, while Martell Webster and Andre Miller
netted 10 points each in the win, Portland's third in a row and 10th in 12
games.
"It was a team effort and all the guys played well, especially in that fourth
quarter when we all came through and brought a lot of energy," said Oden. "We
came together and pulled away."
Oden, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft that has struggled with a
variety of leg injuries since entering the league, is finally living up to his
massive potential, averaging 18.5 points and shooting a gaudy 75.0 percent in
his last four games.
The Grizzlies, meanwhile, fell flat in Phoenix on Wednesday when Amare
Stoudemire was perfect from the field in the third quarter, when he scored 18
of his game-high 28 points, leading Phoenix to a 126-111 win over Memphis.
Zach Randolph scored 24 points and had 13 rebounds, including a franchise
record 10 offensive boards, for Memphis, which has lost two of three since a
three-game winning streak.
Rudy Gay chipped in 16 points in defeat.
"They did make a lot of shots, but we didn't give a lot of resistance," said
Memphis coach Lionel Hollins. "They're a very good team and they showed us why
they're the number one team in the league. They got to the basket at will and
we couldn't execute, like we were in mud."
