Oklahoma City, OK (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Scott Brooks will remain on the Oklahoma City Thunder bench for the 2011-12 season, as general manager Sam Presti
announced on Tuesday the club exercised its third-year option on the head
coach.
In his first full season at the helm in 2009-10, Brooks was honored with the
NBA Coach of the Year award after guiding the Thunder to a 50-32 record and
the franchise's first postseason berth since moving to Oklahoma City. The club
lost to the top-seeded Lakers in the Western Conference quarterfinals in six
games.
"We look forward to our players continuing to benefit from Scott's consistent
focus on their development, selfless approach to his work, and commitment to
our organizational vision," said Presti.
Brooks served as interim head coach for the final 69 games of the 2008-09
campaign and was officially named head coach last April.
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with the Thunder
organization and this great group of players," said Brooks.
The UC-Irvine product had spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the
Thunder (2007-2008), Denver (2003-2006) and Sacramento (2006-2007) following
an 11-year playing career with seven different teams, including Philadelphia,
Minnesota, Houston, Dallas, New York and Cleveland.
