Capello: Beckham is not a coach
Soccer Betting Lines
05/24/2010 -
London, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - England manager Fabio Capello has denied
reports that David Beckham will be part of his coaching staff for this
summer's World Cup in South Africa.
The 35-year-old Beckham was in position to feature in his fourth World Cup for
the Three Lions before rupturing an Achilles tendon while playing for AC Milan
back in March, which has ruled him out of the competition.
Beckham, a former England captain, has taken Capello up on an offer to join
the team in South Africa, but the manager has been quick to deny rumors that
the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder is set to assume a coaching position on his
staff.
"David Beckham will not be on my coaching staff. Absolutely not," said
Capello.
"He will stay with us and he can help us during the World Cup.
"But there will be no coaching. You have to respect the other coaches."
England's World Cup campaign will open on June 12 with a match against the
United States before the team meets Algeria and Slovenia in Group C.
