Grizzlies aim to halt skid against Suns
Basketball Betting Lines
02/16/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Memphis Grizzlies are not far off in the race for a
playoff spot and hope to end a four-game slide tonight, when they kick off the
second half of the NBA season versus the Phoenix Suns at FedEx Forum.
Memphis is three games off the pace in the West and dropped its fourth
consecutive game in last Tuesday's 108-94 setback versus the Atlanta Hawks at
home. All-Star Zach Randolph had 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Rudy Gay
scored 18 points and O.J. Mayo contributed 16 for the Grizzlies, who have
dropped six of their last seven games after winning 15 of their previous 19.
"Hopefully, the break will refresh their minds and their bodies and we'll come
back to work," Memphis coach Lionel Hollins said. "I told them to go enjoy
themselves. The guys going to the All-Star game, enjoy that experience. The
guys that aren't go find a spot to relax."
Randolph had eight points and six rebounds in the West's loss to the East in
Sunday's All-Star Game. He is just one of two players in the NBA (Chris Bosh)
and the only player in the Western Conference averaging at least 20 points and
10 rebounds per game. Randolph also leads NBA in offensive rebounding with a
career-high 4.3 rpg for Memphis, which is an impressive 18-8 at home this
season.
The Grizzlies have won 12 of their previous 15 home games dating back to
December 18 versus Indiana.
Phoenix hopes that the All-Star break was more than enough rest and will try
to bounce back after having its five-game winning streak stopped in last
Wednesday's 108-101 setback versus the Portland Trail Blazers.
Amid trade rumors Amare Stoudemire had 24 points and nine boards, while Steve
Nash contributed 15 points and 11 assists for the Suns, who are seventh in the
Western Conference standings.
"We got our ass kicked, plain and simple," Suns coach Alvin Gentry said. "They
outplayed us in every phase. They outhustled us. They made good plays, good
passes, everything we didn't do."
Nash had four points and a game-best 13 assists, and Stoudemire added 12
points and 10 boards for the West in Sunday's All-Star Game. The Suns will
also visit Dallas and are 13-15 away from the desert this season.
Memphis has won two of three matchups with the Suns this season, but Phoenix
is 12-3 over the last 15 meetings between the teams.

It's less than a month until the NHL hockey betting season opens at MySportsbook.com and preparations are underway for another battle in the race to hoist Lord Stanley's mug in 2007.
As cup crazy fans prepare to place their bets, one online sportsbook ,MySportsbook.com, is offering hockey betting lines on the 2007/2007 Stanley Cup , who will bring it home this upcoming season.
Despite a poor showing in last season's playoffs and the loss of Steve Yzerman to retirement, the Detroit Red Wings are early favourites at this online sportsbook with wagering odds of 6-1. The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.
Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. The Sens are second best in the rankings at a 7-1 bet, and odds makers at this sportsbook are optimistic that the Ottawa squad will fare better than last season's Eastern Conference semi-final upset to the Buffalo Sabres.
Also worth noting are the defending Stanley Cup champs Carolina Hurricanes, a 10-1 bet to repeat. Behind the Canes are the New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks all sit at 12-1. In the basement are the Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, and St. Louis Blues who all have 100-1 odds to win.

Big Ten Conference odds
Teams that should be in: Michigan State, Indiana
Work left to do: Illinois, Purdue, Michigan, Iowa
Behind the big two, the pecking order might be in a bit of flux. Has Michigan State passed Indiana after handling the Hoosiers in East Lansing? Where is Illinois in that mix? What looked like a four-big league last week could be morphing into five -- and even six is not unthinkable at this point if everything breaks right.
Should be in:
Michigan State [21-8 (8-6), RPI: 20, SOS: 15] The Spartans made it four-for-four on the homestand, a gigantic accomplishment that leaves them in extremely good shape. MSU is only 1-6 on the road and is at Michigan and at Wisconsin to close things out, meaning the date with the Wolverines on Tuesday looms very, very large. Beating Texas early will hold up well, as will the rout of Bradley and the win over BYU, but will 8-8 be enough? It very well could be, as the computer numbers are good, but why chance it?
Indiana [18-9 (8-6), RPI: 24, SOS: 32] Hmm ... good thing the last two are at Northwestern and home to Penn State, because IU might want to get both to feel completely safe after dropping its third in the last four, fading after halftime at Michigan State. Who knew the best nonconference win would be over Southern Illinois, which is a gift that keeps on giving for the Hoosiers. The win over Wisconsin also looks good on the mantel.
Work left to do:
Illinois [21-9 (9-6), RPI: 31, SOS: 25] A good performance at Penn State leaves the Illini in pretty good shape. Can they go to Iowa and take care of business to really look on their way? That's a huge game, as there is a possible cluster of teams that will end at 9-7. Illinois beat Bradley, but has lost to Xavier. A 9-7 mark and a semifinals trip in Chicago could be enough with the computer profile hanging in there, but it would be better not to mess around, clinching at least a tie for third.
Purdue [18-10 (7-7), RPI: 47, SOS: 28] Couldn't get it done at Iowa, but did win at Northwestern to put 9-7 squarely in sight. Where does that leave the Boilermakers, though? Even if they beat Minnesota and Northwestern at home, that won't help the computer numbers. Nonconference wins over Virginia, DePaul and Oklahoma are solid, but not spectacular. The Boilers very well might need an upset in the B10 quarters to have a legit claim.
Michigan [19-10 (7-7), RPI: 55, SOS: 53] Well, Michigan did what it needed to do, winning at Minnesota to take control of its fate. The Wolverines have Michigan State and an already-wrapped-up-the-league Ohio State at home to close, so the chances are there. Win both and we can talk. There is no marquee win yet in the profile, and the Wolverines were splattered in several games against name opponents. A mediocre computer profile fueled by a lack of road wins isn't helping, either.
Iowa [16-12 (8-6), RPI: 80, SOS: 64] For the sake of being complete, we'll add Iowa, this season's Stanford. It's plausible that the Hawkeyes could get to 10-6 (at Penn State, vs. Illinois left), but where does that leave them after a gruesome nonconference performance where the best win was over ... Toledo? Iowa State? Cornell?? If they get to 10-6, we can start to look at what they need to do in the B10 tourney, although my gut sense is that they would need to make the final and have knocked off Ohio State or Wisconsin on the way to have any real claim.
